Marbling with Evolon

by Ruth Morgan | February 5, 2018 | Posted in Evolon

Marbling Kit Last year we came across this ingenious marbling kit being demonstrated at the Festival of Quilts and were amazed at the fantastic patterns and colours that could be achieved. We ordered a set from Marble Art Originals Ltd (www.marbling4fun.net) and carefully followed the enclosed instructions. (We also found the three videos on their website particularly helpful!). Our first attempts were all done on Evolon and, as you can see, the contrast between the unpainted portions and the coloured sections is quite dramatic. Here are some close-ups . . . We are looking forward to trying marbling on our other fabrics, […]

Spotlight on Evolon

by Ruth Morgan | November 24, 2017 | Posted in Evolon

Whether you are new to Evolon or a regular user, here are a few facts about this amazing fabric that you may not know . . . A few insights into the manufacturing process . . . Evolon is a produced using a unique, worldwide patented manufacturing process. It’s production consists of only three components – polyester, polyamide and water. Polyester and polyamide chips are spun into endless filaments,  which are then uniformly laid on a belt. The filaments are then simultaneously split into microfilaments (up to 100 times thinner than a human hair!) and entangled together with high pressure water jets, creating a fabric. No chemical […]

‘Chapel’ by Shelia Dalgleish using Lutradur

by Ruth Morgan | November 10, 2017 | Posted in Lutradur

Several months ago (January 2016) we featured three landscape pictures by Sheila, which she had created using Lutradur. Sheila has a passion for all forms of textile work and is currently busy planning another exhibition for February next year. However, we are pleased she has found time to send us a few images of some recent work. The first of which is featured above. Sheila was inspired to create this piece of work after attending a wedding in Edinburgh, where she discovered the Chapel of St Albert the Great, a beautiful new building with a striking structure.  After taking several photographs, Sheila decided to base her design on […]

‘Autumn’ by Sylvia Stead using Lutradur

by Ruth Morgan | September 4, 2017 | Posted in Lutradur

This unusual piece was created by Silver Stead and depicts the essence and colours of autumn. The leaves were made from Lutradur 100,  which she hand cut and coloured using acrylic paint in various subtle shades of orange, yellow and brown. When dry, the leaves were attached to a background of Mulberry bark, creating a tactile and interesting composition. As a final touch, Sylvia added some small hand sewn moths. Just a reminder that autumn is on its way! All weights of Lutradur are available from our online shop.

Zeelon – available in THREE different weights

by Ruth Morgan | August 21, 2017 | Posted in Zeelon

Do you like textile art? Have you tried working with Zeelon? Zeelon is great for creating brilliant effects, because it has a soft, smooth finish and you can see through it. At first, you might think it looks like Lutradur, but because of its much finer fibres it has a more even appearance and the drape effect of a conventional cloth. Just like Lutradur, Zeelon will not tear or fray and is very strong. It can be painted, printed, dyed, sewn and also distressed. Its fine translucent properties make it great for layering or where light transmission is required. […]
